Are you wondering if your child is “ready” for private lessons at My Little Conservatory? We have several readiness benchmarks that you can use to help you decide if your child is ready to start lessons. Check out our readiness benchmarks below.

Piano Lesson Readiness Benchmarks:

  • Must be at least 4 years old
  • Your child should be able to take instruction from a teacher
  • Finger Dexterity (being able to move them independently)
  • Number Identification 1-5
  • Letter Identification A-G
  • The Understanding that Reading goes Left to Right
  • Eye Focus and Eye Tracking Across a Page
  • The Ability to Hold a Pencil and Make Basic Symbols (Shapes, Letters and Numbers)

Voice Lesson Readiness Benchmarks:

  • Must be at least 5 years old
  • Letter Identification A-G
  • Basic Reading of a few Simple Words
  • Writing Basic Symbols including Shapes, Letters and Numbers
  • Having a Sense of Body Awareness
  • Some Basic Awareness of Vocal Inflection and Vocal Chords

 

Ukulele Lesson Readiness Benchmarks:

  • Must be at least 5 years old
  • Finger Dexterity (being able to move them independently)
  • Finger Strength and Fine Motor Development (can write and cut with scissors)
  • Number Identification 1-5
  • Letter Identification A-G
  • The Understanding that Reading Goes Left to Right
  • Eye Focus and Eye Tracking Across a Page
