Summer Session Unit Descriptions 2014
In our Kindermusik classes, each month has a specific theme (or unit). All of our songs and activities revolve around these themes. Here are the units and descriptions for the Summer Session.
Sing & Play (birth to 2 year olds)
Big Back Yard: Parks, playgrounds, and yards of all shapes and sizes were made for play, play, play! Our bodies get a gross-motor “goose” when we go on a pretend adventure in our Big Back Yard.
Hello Day: What do you do in the morning? In Hello, Day!, you’ll greet the day with all of your senses and say good morning to the sunshine, you’ll blow away the morning dew, you’ll stretch your bodies high and low, explore and exercise fine-motor skills, and even play bath time and laundry games.
Wiggle & Grow (2-3 year olds)
Beach Days: Grab your beach ball, were going to the beach! Crabs are scuttling, toes are wiggling, waves are crashing , and the sun is shining. Well enjoy favorite songs and dances, do an Octopus Hula, jump on a banana boat, and then snuggle up and happily relax to gentle beach sounds and songs. Beach Days is as fun and restorative as well, a trip to the beach!
Down on the Ground: In this unit, we’ll roll up our sleeves and get right Down on the Ground and take a good look around. Well engage children’s natural curiosity as we hop like bunnies, scoot like caterpillars, scurry like squirrels, and even do a certain, familiar spider fingerplay. Meanwhile, you’ll broaden your own vision, and foster a child’s natural curiosity!
Move & Groove (4-5 year olds)
Sing a Story: Were off to the opera and its time to Sing a Story! You will meet some colorful characters from a Mozart opera called The Magic Flute, check out the hustle and bustle that happens backstage before a show, and learn more about Mozart, too. You’ll even explore the musical staff, and how notes a composer puts on a page become beautiful music!
Sounds Abound: In a world without instruments, could you still make music? Of course you could! Music was born from creativity, people using their voices, bodies, and objects they found, assembled, or invented to make new sounds. Join us as we explore rhythm patterns, creative sound-finding and sound-making, graphic notation, and storytelling because the creative brain is where Sounds Abound!
